Success and your people

This is a fact all physician leaders should now know: According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the #1 reason people leave their jobs is because they do not feel appreciated on a day-to-day basis. And according to a 2007 Gallup Poll, most employees have not received any recognition in over a year!

In his book, How Full is Your Bucket?, Tom Rath explains that giving sincere recognition to employees creates what he calls "engagement."  Employees who are engaged are happy, productive, successful - and typically stay in their jobs.

It’s clear that engaged employees can make a huge impact on a medical practice’s bottom line.  If you haven’t already done so, take a look at the MGMA Better Performing Practices book: (http://www5.mgma.com/ecom/Default.aspx?tabid=138&action=INVProductDetails&args=2752&kc=ecn); a common thread through the book is this: The better performing practices are the ones that are doing the best at human resources. Sounds simple so why isn’t everyone doing a good job at this?
