It’s a good idea to train all practice members

Along with urging all group members serve the practice by assuming some non-clinical duties, consider requiring all physician owners to attend one or two days per year of continuing education in non-clinical areas. The practice pays the out-of-pocket expense and the physician must take the time to attend without additional reimbursement. The courses may be in leadership, in healthcare socio-economic issues, in human resources, or in practice managmenet subjects approved by the group. If anything, ALL physicians should be required to take CPT coding classes.

Too many practices are held back by a few members who don't understand present-day issues but unfairly influence decisions based on what they don't know. Bringing them up to the 21st Century on socio-economic concerns as well as clinical issues may indeed be a worthwhile investment.
