Be patient during cross-training

Written by Reed Tinsley | August 4, 2008

Patience during the training period is essential. Processes might slow slightly while employees become comfortable with their new roles. But remember, any delays are only temporary: Cross-training represents an investment in your employees' and your practice's future.

Since employees who are cross-trained do more, they are worth more. Be sure to provide competitive pay and benefits to avoid losing top performers, though money won't guarantee that people do their best work.

As people expand their knowledge base and apply their newly learned skills, they have a greater sense of ownership in the practice. This encourages them to make continuing contributions to your practice. As a result, their job satisfaction and loyalty increases.

Oh by the way.......this post obviously "assumes" your people are getting cross-trained............true?????
