A Thought on Disaster Planning

Disaster Preparedness for Medical Practices: Protecting Records and Insurance

As Hurricane Rita nears the Texas coastline, I wonder how many medical practices are prepared for any kind of a disaster, whether it be a hurricane, major power outage for an extended period of time, tornado, etc.

Are computer records and important files protected? Is there a plan in place to get up and running? Most importantly - does the medical practice even have business interruption insurance in place? While we often think "it won't happen to us", an "ounce of prevention......" sometimes makes a whole lot of sense.
